About Me

My photo
Finished my bachelors degree in Art Practices August of 2012 and a masters degree in Educational Leadership and Policy with a specialization in Post Secondary Adult and Continuing Education in 2014. Professionally I'm interested in creating culturally responsive curriculum for Native American/Alaska Native youth and adults in formal and non-formal learning environments. I love the intersection of art, learning/teaching, and Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing. In my creative process I'm interested in using iconic Native American images or objects in different ways to illustrate political or historical themes, truths (as I see them), and experiences. I also love to use different art mediums to capture the people and world around me. I enjoy making art with friends and giving away art is a way for me to show my love and gratitude to others.

You'll Never Catch Me!!

The Many Changes of an Image

This post is meant to show an example of manipulations and changes that can be made to an image. These are just a few of the many, many
simple manipulations available.

Above is the original image I took of Mom's Garden House. This came straight from the camera with no manipulations except making the file smaller to make uploading the image to this site easier.

Next I simply desaturated (took out the color) the image.

Then I used the "despeckle" filter which makes an interesting distortion.

Here is the "despeckle" feature with image color.

I desaturated the image again and altered the color value levels.

Here I changed the color from the green tones above to reds and oranges by using the Hue-Saturation.

I LOVE IMAGE MANIPULATION!!
It's like opening a present, I never know what the picture is going to turn out like.

Pacific NW College of Art: My Admissions Portfolio

Digital Image: Ancestor
Here two images are used: a self-portrait of me taken a few years ago and a historical photograph taken by Edward S. Curtis of a Cheyenne Elder in the late 19th Century.

Digital Image: Ant View
A digital photo taken by me in a flowerbed looking towards the sky.

Digital Image: Astro
A self-portrait taken a couple of years ago. A self-portrait was a requirement of the portfolio.

Digital Image: Baby
Here is a digital image I captured of Jimmy on his first camping trip to Crescent Lake. Even as a baby he has an amazing ability to convey emotion through his eyes. Some of my best photographs are of him.

Digital Painting: Black & White Abstract
This image was created in Photoshop(c) and can be created in many different colors.

Digital Image: Flower
This digital photo was taken this last spring in my parent's backyard.

Digital Painting: Geometric
This digital painting is one of my favorites and was created in Photoshop(c). I love the green colors and different shapes and depth.

Graphic Design: Government
This came from an image I captured of a co-worker who's Seneca. He thought he was being funny by flipping me off. I changed the image to black and white, added the text and added the text to the envelop in his hands. I made this on a crappy CRT monitor and thought I had erased all the background. Haven't had time to fix it.

Digital Image: Grandfather Granddaughter
This image was captured by me at my brother's wedding a few years ago. It looks like a vintage image. PNCA admissions said it looked "timeless" when I had my portfolio review.

Digital Painting: Industrial Lighting
Another one of my favorite paintings. I like the color, balance and depth.

Graphic Design: Living In Balance
A digital self-portrait taken by me in late spring. I added a favorite Native quote.

Graphic Design: NAYA
I was asked to produce a new Housing to Homeownership flyer for NAYA a year ago.

Digital Image: Palace of Fine Arts
I love this image that I took last summer in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts. If you are planning on visiting the city make sure you make a trip to this amazing location. About an hour before sunset is best.

Digital Image: Paprika
I took this close up image of my friend and I just love it. I reminds me of a crazy vintage image.

Digital Painting: Records
Just a cool image I made one day. I like the black and white contrast.

Digital Painting: Red Yellow Abstract
Digital painting using Photoshop (C)

Graphic Design: Small Pox Blankets
The first in my series of images called "The Mathematics of Genocide". Both are vintage images: one is of a Kootenai women taken in the late 19th Century by Edward S. Curtis and the other image photographer is unknown. It's difficult to look at, but illustrates a dark time in US history.

Digital Painting: Tipi Vision

Digital Image: Wedding
