About Me
- Shilo George
- Finished my bachelors degree in Art Practices August of 2012 and a masters degree in Educational Leadership and Policy with a specialization in Post Secondary Adult and Continuing Education in 2014. Professionally I'm interested in creating culturally responsive curriculum for Native American/Alaska Native youth and adults in formal and non-formal learning environments. I love the intersection of art, learning/teaching, and Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing. In my creative process I'm interested in using iconic Native American images or objects in different ways to illustrate political or historical themes, truths (as I see them), and experiences. I also love to use different art mediums to capture the people and world around me. I enjoy making art with friends and giving away art is a way for me to show my love and gratitude to others.

Self-Portraits: A New Technique
This is a technique I just started using for my self-portrait. I like the simplicity of the light and dark. I've found there are certain image conditions that make a better image in this style. The white spots on my hair and clothing are falling snow. I think I'm going to use these images to practice value and shading. This technique also works good with my face because of my round cheeks, forehead and chin. I like that it gives a suggestion of facial features without all the little details (and imperfections).

Digitally Manipulating My Drawings
I discovered the fantastic technique of digitally changing my drawings. This is a quick drawing from my sketchbook.
This is a self-portrait from my sketchbook. It's half my face and half of my grandmother, Bonhist. This picture shows how my ancestors are behind everything I do and that they guide me everyday.

Photos from Today's Snow
Drawings From Art Class
My favorites from my first drawing class. I really enjoyed the class and did much better than I thought I would. I had an excellent teacher and my classmates were fun and quirky like me.
Abstraction Drawing:
One of my favorite assignments in my class.
I spent over 8 hours on this drawing.

Self-Portrait: Grandma Bonhist and Shilo
I had a hard time on my self-portrait in class (Not pictured here) so on the weekend I made a self-portrait of half of my face and half of my Grandmother Bonhist's face.
I am still struggling with faces. It's hard to get the right proportion.
Unique Perspective:
This is an assignment where we were to find a unique perspective somewhere in our environment. I'm not statisfied with how it turned out. I might draw it again and draw the squares individually as per the advice of my peers. The stovepipe turned out good though.

Figure 1: Abstract Landscape:
We had a nude model the last week of class and were instructed to draw the model as an abstracted landscape. Can you see it?

Figure 2
Same model as above in a different position. The symbol on her back was her tattoo. I like how the feet turned out.
