Compressed Charcoal and an eraser

I really like subtractive drawing. You put heavy layers of compressed charcoal on your paper and then use an eraser to show different values. The lighter the value the more charcoal erased. It's kind of like drawing backwards. I enjoyed making the shadows. Also when you do this type of drawing you really start to notice the subtle changes in light and dark.

I have to make a subtractive self-portrait this weekend which should be interesting.
